Ariel Bond

I was born and raised in the mitten. I’m a class of 2012 Michigan grad with a degree in Screen Arts and Cultures. Before moving to Bristol, I interned for an economic development non-profit that helped attract businesses to Ann Arbor, called Ann Arbor SPARK. While in school, I worked my way from staff photographer to senior photo editor at the Michigan Daily where I fell in love with sports. I’m a fan of all things Detroit and Michigan and I will forever bleed maize and blue.

Andy North reflects on the Masters

ESPN golf analyst Andy North visited the ESPN campus recently in preparation for coverage of the Masters Tournament, which today will include the network’s Par 3 Contest (3 p.m. ET) followed by SportsCenter at the Masters (ESPN, 5 p.m.).

North, who is in his 22nd year as an ESPN analyst, took the time to answer some questions, including what he thinks spectators should look for at Augusta National, his memories of his first time in the event and what a typical day covering golf for ESPN is like.

ESPN will televise the first and second rounds of the Masters on Thursday and Friday (3 p.m. each day).

From Ann Arbor to Bristol, a recent Michigan grad cheers from afar for her beloved Wolverines

Ariel Bond is a production assistant for ESPN Communications’ Multimedia Team. Here, she shares what it’s been like to enter the “real world” just as her alma mater reaches the Final Four.

547.

That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Ann Arbor, Mich. It’s the number of air miles that separate me from the town where I used to study at the University of Michigan and cover the Wolverines as a photographer for the school paper. I started shooting on my 19th birthday in January 2009.

I know that number from my boarding pass from Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn. to Detroit Metro Airport. In March, I was returning to the Michigan campus for the first time since starting at ESPN a month earlier to watch the team play against Michigan State. Lucky for me, they didn’t burn a couch this night. continue reading…

Horde of ESPN film aficionados offer Oscar outlook; analyst Mark Schlereth laments Red Dawn snub

ESPN employees love the movies.

Sometimes, they’re producing them: College football analyst Ed Cunningham won at the 2012 Oscars for underwriting the Best Documentary, Undefeated.

Sometimes, they’re watching and then critiquing them: On Friday, SportsCenter anchor and movie maven Adnan Virk shared his 2013 Academy Award picks with Front Row.

Sometimes, they’re appearing in them: ESPN NFL analyst and ESPN Radio co-host Mark Schlereth (Red Dawn) and SportsCenter anchor Stan Verrett (Playing For Keeps) made 2012 cameos in major films.

Tonight, even the sports world turns to Hollywood for winners and losers, watching the 85th Oscars on ABC (7 p.m. ET). To celebrate the annual night of gowns and tuxedos, Front Row strolled the halls of ESPN and asked employees to share their Oscar insights. . . and sample their acceptance speeches.

The results are rivetting performances from SportsCenter co-anchors Hannah Storm and Kevin Negandhi, among others. Cameos include ESPN makeup artist Tiffany Hall-Scarmana (on the cosmetic magic of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey); E:60 feature producer John Minton III (on storytelling in Zero Dark 30); and E:60′s Andy Tennant (on Argo).

Schlereth, an actor of some repute, portrayed a high school football coach in Red Dawn, a remake of the 1984 cult classic.

Somehow, neither Verrett nor Schlereth were among the Best Supporting Actor nominees and Schlereth calmly shared his views on the obvious “snub” below.
