Landon Donovan is widely considered the best American soccer player in history. His 57 goals and 58 assists playing for his country are both U.S. Men’s National Team records, and tonight he plays his last match in a USA jersey (7 ET, ESPN, WatchESPN, ESPN Deportes Radio) against Ecuador at Rentschler Field in East Harford, Conn.

In honor of the occasion, the ESPN marketing department will roll out on social media platforms a “This is SportsCenter” (TISC) campaign spot that has never been seen before, featuring Donovan with three SportsCenter anchors Scott Van Pelt, Stuart Scott and Hannah Storm (see video above).

The “TISC” spot, entitled “Joke,” was filmed at ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. headquarters in December 2009. It is among several planned content elements today across ESPN’s media platforms, spotlighting the national team career of America’s most-accomplished soccer star (see sidebar). Donovan also starred in a long-running “TISC” spot entitled “Copier,” which also was shot in Bristol in December 2009.

Both “TISC” spots were developed in collaboration with creative agency Wieden + Kennedy New York.

Donovan, 32, has a long association with ESPN. A few of his memorable appearances on ESPN platforms are captured in the photo gallery below.
