As the show’s co-host, Yankee Mark Teixeira turns tables on Mike & Mike
New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira spent three hours Wednesday morning (7-10 a.m. ET) in ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. studios, co-hosting ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike, which was simulcast on ESPN2. He then took a few minutes for an appearance on the 10 a.m. SportsCenter.
Front Row spent a few minutes with the former first-round draft pick who has won five Gold Gloves and appeared in two All-Star Games.
Why did you want to co-host Mike & Mike?
I listen to the show, I love those guys. They have a really unique insight on sports and they cover a lot of different topics. I am a sports junkie and I love talking about it. What better two guys to go on the air with and have fun and talk some sports?
What was your favorite part?
The “Foul Territory” [highlights of which are seen in the video above; it’s a takeoff on a series of irreverent interviews Mark conducts for the YES Network, where he interviewed “the Mikes”] segment was enjoyable, turning the tables on them was good. Literally, however, I enjoyed every minute of that experience.
What was the difference between your Mike & Mike appearance and the hit on SportsCenter?
On SportsCenter, you need to be a little more buttoned up since it is the news. On Mike & Mike, you can have a little more fun.
If you were an anchor on SportsCenter, who would be your dream co-host?
[Comedian and Sunday NFL Countdown contributor] Frank Caliendo so he can do every single voice I needed. He’s like 100 co-hosts in one.
What has surprised you about ESPN’s campus?
That it’s 120-plus acres. It’s a small city right here, which is really cool.
