ESPN and ESPN Deportes are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) with special programming and content across all platforms that highlight the contributions of Hispanics in the world of sports.

When the Chicago Bears visit the New York Jets on ESPN’s Monday Night Football, the ESPN Deportes telecast will feature commentators Alvaro Martin, Raul Allegre and sideline reporter John Sutcliffe saluting Hispanic Heritage Month.

After covering more than 100 MNF games during his ESPN tenure, Sutcliffe feels privileged to be a part of the franchise.

“I get paid to have a lot of fun on Mondays,” said Sutcliffe, the first Hispanic to report a MNF game from the sidelines on ESPN in English. He considers that distinction among his career highlights.

Working on a variety of ESPN and ESPN Deportes platforms provides him with the “the opportunity to work in both Spanish and English.”

As the number of NFL Hispanic players continues to grow, Sutcliffe says that he has special connections with some of these players, such as [Philadelphia Eagles quarterback] Mark Sanchez and [Chicago Bears lineman] Roberto Garza. Sutcliffe always enjoys “interviewing the [Dallas] Cowboys quarterback and calling him by his name, Antonio Ramiro Romo” or Tony Romo.
