ESPN reaches multi-year agreement with American Basketball Association (ABA)

ESPN is continuing to expand its already extensive and diverse basketball rights portfolio by reaching a multi-year agreement with the American Basketball Association (ABA). In basketball layman’s terms, the red, white and blue basketball is back for your viewing pleasure!

Per terms of the agreement, ESPN3 will carry the ABA Championship Finals and two weekly regular-season games – “Games of the Week” – on its multi-screen streaming platform. The agreement begins with the 2014-15 ABA regular-season. ESPN has exclusive rights to all games selected for ESPN3 distribution.

The “Games of the Week” will air live on Saturday and Sunday evenings, beginning Nov. 8 and 9 (the ABA regular-season runs November through March).

“We look forward to showcasing the ABA’s exciting brand of basketball on our ESPN3 platform,” said Todd Myers, ESPN director, programming. “Basketball’s popularity continues to grow by leaps and bounds, at all levels, and now fans will have access to the tremendous athletes and gameplay of the ABA.”

The American Basketball Association is the largest professional sports league in existence with more than 1,000 players, 200 coaches and 100 teams. The ABA joins the NBA, WNBA, FIBA (International Basketball Federation) and Euroleague as part of ESPN’s vast collection of basketball rights.
