Praise for Dr. Jack at NBA Finals tribute
Earlier today in Miami, ESPN held a ceremony and press availability to pay tribute to Dr. Jack Ramsay, who passed away earlier this year.
Ramsay’s good friend and colleague Hubie Brown shared memories of the former ESPN broadcaster. Brown delivered such impassioned remarks that he garnered a standing ovation from the packed media room in AmericanAirlines Arena.
Dr. Jack’s son, Chris – who is also ESPN.com’s senior director, Editorial and Special Projects – was on hand to accept a bronze microphone in honor of his dad.
“He got right into your heart and right into your soul [when you talked to him],” Brown said. “As you walked away, you thought you knew him your entire life because he affected you that way. The next time he saw you, he could recite exactly everything that you talked about.”
Here is some reaction to the ceremony from Twitter:
There is a tribute now in Miami to Dr. Jack Ramsay. With apologies to LeBron and Tim, it's the most meaningful thing today at the Finals.
