#PursuitOfPerfection dream showdown: UConn-Notre Dame title game on ESPN

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Until now, no teams have met in the NCAA Men’s or Women’s Basketball National Championship Game with undefeated records.

Tonight, undefeated top seeds Connecticut and Notre Dame continue their “Pursuit Of Perfection” from Bridgestone Arena (8:30 ET, ESPN/WatchESPN).

The Fighting Irish are seeking their first title since 2001. The Huskies are looking to join an elite group in search of their record-ninth National Championship. If the Huskies win, they join the UConn men as 2014 NCAA Division I champions. In 2004, UConn became the first – and still the only – school to own the men’s and women’s Division I hoops titles in the same season.

The hour-long NCAA Women’s Championship Special Presented by Capital One (7:30, ESPN/WatchESPN) hosted by Kevin Negandhi, Kara Lawson and Rebecca Lobo from inside the arena will precede the National Championship Game. Former Notre Dame and current WNBA star Skylar Diggins will be interviewed for the pregame show.

Throughout the day, SportsCenter has presented in-depth coverage beginning with the 9 a.m. edition from the Nashville Renaissance Hotel. Coverage continues from Bridgestone Arena this afternoon.

During the ESPN telecast tonight, several “Pursuit Of Perfection” storylines will air, including: a historical perspective on NCAA undefeated teams playing for a national title; a look at how the UConn-Notre Dame rivalry is the present-day version of UConn-Tennessee; and an examination as how Notre Dame recently has had the upper hand in the series.

In the video above, ESPN teamed with actress Connie Britton of ABC’s hit drama series “Nashville” to help promote women’s tournament coverage. Britton covered “The Only Way I Know,” which originally was recorded by Jason Aldean featuring Luke Bryant and Eric Church. Britton also shot a music video in Nashville which incorporates in-tournament highlights.
