Go inside — and above — ESPN’s new Monday Night Football production trucks

Tonight in Cincinnati — when the host Bengals’ duel with the Pittsburgh Steelers (ESPN, 8:30 ET) — and throughout the Fall, ESPN is bringing fans coverage of Monday Night Football with the help of four brand new production trucks.

At nearly 3,392 square feet combined, the units are bigger than the average single-family home and hold 86 operating workstations.

The trucks — which will travel more than 20,000 miles during the 2013-14 NFL season — make up the largest integrated mobile production facility in the country, which means that all four trucks act as one and operate off of a single router. That way, the game production, studio production, ESPN Deportes and social media all have access to all the same resources in their designated work areas inside the truck.

Before these state-of-the-art mobile units embarked on the new season, they took a brief pit-stop at ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. campus for employees to get a look inside.

Leading the research, development and operation of the trucks is Chris Calcinari, ESPN’s remote operations vice president. In the video above, he and Steve Carter, senior operations manager, give an overview of the trucks, the remote operations team and what fans can expect from ESPN’s MNF productions.
