#ButtTag (or is it #ButtSlide?) emerges as possible SportsCenter ‘Not Top 10’ successor to retired #ButtFumble

Maybe it’s a “Brandon” thing.
Former New York Jets offensive Brandon Moore was the target of highlight jokes as the recipient of face-first stumble by Mark Sanchez which earned the “Butt Fumble” duo the dubious distinction of owning SportsCenter’s “Worst of the Worst” play for an unprecedented 40 weeks before it finally was retired.
Last night, Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips’ posterior was the landing area for Jonathan Villar’s check-to-cheek slide as the Astro’s attempt to stretch a single into a double went terribly wrong.
“All I will say is poor Jonathan Villar — we’ll see you on future Fridays for weeks to come,” anchor Kevin Negandhi said after introducing much of America to the Phillips-Villar play during today’s 9 a.m. ET SportsCenter.
“As a longtime Astros fan I hate to perpetuate this dubious piece of history,” co-anchor Hannah Storm told Front Row. “‘But’ (being the operative word) the opportunity to have a butt play once again and reach No. 1 of the ‘Not Top 10’ is just too great. The emptiness we feel from the retirement of the #ButtFumble may be dissipated now, albeit with profuse apologies to Jonathan Villar.”
“All I can say is here we go again!” said Coordinating Producer Mark Summer, who upon retiring the Sanchez-Moore Butt Fumble on Sept. 6, explained, “The ‘Butt Fumble’ has won the ‘Not Top 10′ each week since last Thanksgiving, and we’re not sure anything can top it.”
This morning Summer said simply, “Mark Sanchez has to be smiling somewhere.”
There is some debate as to what the play should actually be called – both #ButtTag and #ButtSlide have seen support and Front Row is asking fans to officially buttress the more apropos name (see sidebar). We welcome your thoughts in the comments section as well.
Because Phillips made an exceptional between-the-legs play to tag out Villar, Negandhi noted during this morning’s “Top 10” daily segment: “It is the rare play that you will see on the “Top 10” and the “Not Top 10.”
