When did you join Twitter and why?
2009. I joined out of curiosity. I wanted to see what it was all about and was interested in finding an alternative to Facebook for fans and followers.
Who is your favorite person to follow on Twitter?
Tough to single one person out, but I like following other NASCAR reporters. They help me stay tuned in to what’s happening at the racetrack when I’m not there. It keeps me up to speed on all happenings, ensuring that I don’t miss anything I should be on top of. Tops in this category though is probably @bobpockrass (Sporting News NASCAR writer).
Who is the most interesting person who follows you on Twitter?
@Ourand_SBJ John Ourand is the media reporter for the Sports Business Journal. I like to get his insight as to what’s happening inside the sports television industry.
If you could add any one person as a Twitter follower, who would it be?
Richard Petty. I just think it would be cool to be followed by “The King.”
What’s your favorite Tweet you’ve received or your favorite Twitter moment?
I got invited by Robert Irvine to a taping of “Restaurant Impossible.” Randomly, I did a search for my hometown and saw someone Tweet that the show was taping an episode in my hometown. I tweeted back to find out where and unbeknownst to me, the person I was tweeting with was the show’s producer. Next thing I know, Robert Irvine is inviting me and my family to the grand opening of the restaurant they were renovating that week.
What’s been your strangest exchange on Twitter?
I tweeted something about an NFL Player that was retweeted by [SportsCenter anchor] Linda Cohn. A man with the handle @Leearenberg tweeted back and we exchanged tweets. Naturally, I looked at his profile and at the time he listed himself as being a Pirate. Sarcastically I asked, “Are you really a Pirate?” He responded by saying, “No, but I played one in three movies.” Turned out he’s a pretty successful actor who, in addition to being in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, currently plays Grumpy on ABC’s Once Upon A Time. Happy to say we occasionally still exchange tweets.
