ESPN picks a long-term Rose

Few events in sports represent continued excellence like the Rose Bowl Game does with sports fans.

Its rich tradition, combined with great football matchups and moments, have made the “Granddaddy of Them All” a significant happening on the sports calendar.

ESPN, which along with ABC has been home to the Rose Bowl for nearly the last quarter century, has signed on to carry the event on our numerous outlets through 2026 as part of a new long-term extension announced today.

The Rose Bowl Game is generally the second most-watched college football game every year (behind the National Championship Game) and for the length of the new agreement (2015-2026) will be settled in its traditional New Year’s Day slot (with the exception of years when Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday; in those cases, the Rose Bowl Game will be on Jan. 2).

ESPN’s current deal with the Rose Bowl, along with a separate deal for the other BCS bowls, expires with the January 2014 BCS Bowl games.
