Power Of IX: Photos behind the scenes of Top 40 athletes project

Who are the best female athletes of the Title IX era?

It’s a question ESPN tackled in developing its initiative to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking law that has helped open doors for female athletes.

On April 30, ESPN will begin to unveil the top 40 female athletes of the past 40 years, as reflected by the votes of a blue-ribbon independent panel of journalists, women’s sports experts and executives.

You’ll learn more about the 40 women in vignettes ESPN’s E:60 crew is filming. The profiles will be showcased on espnW and SportsCenter in a countdown to June 23, the 40th anniversary of Title IX becoming law.

Recently in New York’s Times Square, Front Row cameras were privy to the filming of interviews discussing some of the best athletes involving three sports icons: tennis legend Billie Jean King, former SportsCenter anchor and current Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, and Olympic swimming great Donna de Varona.
