Celebrate Fenway Park’s 100th anniversary with ESPN Images
BOSTON — This year marks the 100th anniversary of historic Fenway Park, and ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast this week features the New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox (ESPN, ESPN3, 8 p.m. ET).
The telecast will pay homage to the oldest and most intimate ballparks in America, home to the “Green Monstah.” As part of the show, still imagery from around the iconic ballpark will be weaved throughout the telecast, primarily before and after commercial breaks.
“We’ll use the images in a number of different ways,” said Sunday Night Baseball coordinating producer Tom Archer.
“First and foremost, we are trying to give people a sense of what it was/is like to attend a game at Fenway, but also convey the passion with which they attend.”
In what can best be described as a spiritual awakening tour, ESPN Images senior photographer Scott Clarke was provided unprecedented access to Fenway this weekend to help capture the mystique of this hallowed ground.
“After 23 years of documenting sports, it’s nice to know that some assignments and places still have the ability to give you the chills,” Clarke said. “Fenway is exactly that place.”
