Disney, ESPN salute U.S. vets with ‘Heroes Work Here’ Initiative

Today, the Walt Disney Company and President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger announced an important new initiative to recruit and hire military veterans across all segments of the company.

Heroes Work Here

“Heroes Work Here. Employ excellence. Hire veterans” is Disney’s pledge to find career opportunities for 1,000 veterans over the next three years. The company is also launching a national public awareness campaign to encourage all employers across the U.S. to hire veterans. Additionally, employees will be encouraged to serve veteran’s organizations across the country through volunteer opportunities with Disney’s VoluntEARS program.

“Heroes Work Here” aims to honor the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform while celebrating our shared values — namely, honor, integrity, service before self, commitment, respect and courage.

Those qualities are an important part of the ESPN culture and our veterans were eager to explain how military experience prepared them well for their roles at ESPN as part of Disney’s nationwide campaign. The first video spot debuted today at the Walt Disney Company’s Annual Shareholder Meeting in Kansas City.

“At ESPN, you are part of a team working together,” said Anita Adams, a retired Air Force Sergeant and currently an associate director of international sales. “Just like in the military, you have a common goal.”

Chris Forando, formerly of the U.S. Coast Guard and currently a director of employee learning and development compared his service experience to ESPN’s “unwavering commitment to always do the right thing for everyone that we serve – employees, clients and fans,” as well as “to continually improve our people, product and services in the organization.”

“Heroes Work Here” is a reflection of our commitment to improving our company by honoring those who have already given so much and recognizing their skills, talents, experience and perspective as vital to our continued success.
