Week in review

Before we review the week on Front Row, this reminder: There are 14 shopping days until Christmas.

With that in mind, heed ESPN The Magazine’s Senior Editor Joel Weber‘s gift-giving advice (video above).

He was featured in a “Gifts for Guys” segment on Friday’s Good Morning America.

Take the Mag’s gift advice with you, even while you’re riveted to the Heisman Trophy telecast (8 p.m. ET, ESPN, streaming on WatchESPN).

Now, let’s review the week on Front Row.

* After 149 days of lockout the NBA and the players association reached an agreement for this season’s games to start on Christmas. ESPN and ABC announced their new NBA schedule.

* ESPN welcomes former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona to its baseball team. Francona will serve as an analyst on Sunday Night Baseball.

* This week proved that this is the most wonderful time of the year to be a Hot Stove baseball fan. All of the happenings in Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings were Storified:

* On Thursday Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim fans jumped for joy, St. Louis Cardinals’ fans were distraught and David Ortiz opted to stay in Red Sox Nation;

* On Wednesday Baseball Tonight’s Karl Ravech interviewed Francona and Bobby Valentine. The two switched roles in the baseball world this offseason.

* On Tuesday the Marlins signed Jose Reyes, Ron Santo was named to the Hall of Fame and the world thought Pujols was heading to Miami.

Elsewhere, Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden was profiled by The New Yorker, and USA Today interviewed ESPN producer David Ceisler about the tweaks you will see in the Heisman Trophy telecast.

One of the changes will be “Heismanologist” Joe Tessitore’s use of the touchscreen to use stats of past Heisman winners in comparing them to current candidates.

Below is a screen capture of the type of stats Tessitore will use. Saturday, return to Front Row to meet another new feature of the show, electric violinist Ken Ford.
