Behind The Scenes

WNBA draft invades Bristol

Since Sunday, ESPN has been the temporary home to hundreds of athletes, coaches, media, and athletes’ friends and family involved in the WNBA draft. The event, which begins airing on ESPN at 3 p.m. ET with a simulcast on ESPN3.com, marks the first time a pro sports league has conducted its draft on ESPN’s campus.

Beginning at 4 p.m. ET, espnW is doing a live video stream/chat on its Facebook page with WNBA draftees after the first round. Katie Richman, ESPN W’s social media expert, is at the center of it all.

“We’re set up right at the ESPN Café, which is smack in the middle of the ESPN campus. It’s a great location to set up a live video chat. Everyone I’ve ever known at ESPN or WNBA has come by to say ‘Hi,” Richman said.

How does this event compare to other live events she’s covered for ESPN’s social media, like various X Games?

“Well, it’s great to be managing social for an event here at home in Bristol. Being on-site is great, but we’re having fun hosting today. Looking forward to lots more social media coverage from Bristol this year.”

We’ll have hourly posts and pictures on the event here on Front Row.
