Waxing On The Car Wash: Mosley
I have been a Talent Producer here at the sports mecca for more than three years now. “Sugar” Shane Mosley and his crew — 17 members strong — represent the biggest group we’ve ever had come in for an ESPN Car Wash.
They visited Feb. 16 as Mosley promoted his welterweight championship fight May 7 versus Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
It’s pretty common that professional boxers roll with a deep entourage because of their numerous trainers, managers, and publicists.
However, this day was especially packed because we had a camera crew from Showtime to shoot some footage for their show FightClub 360.
A typical guest’s posse usually amounts to between 1-to-4 people. On a big campus like ours, there’s a lot hustle and bustle. Here’s a shout out to the wonderful ESPN Global Security Team that helped me shuffle the crew around.
Sometimes Car Wash appointments come together in a day; sometimes they can take a few months to book. This was pretty average. It took about a month to secure Mosley’s schedule and to get all the different clearance rights for the film crew to accompany us throughout the day.
Mosley’s day was filled with wide variety of interviews, including ESPN Deportes, First Take, The Herd, Friday Night Fights and SportsNation, just to name a few.
Mosley is a very soft-spoken and kind guy. He seemed to get excited the most when talking about his 20-year old son, Shane Mosley Jr., (who was also with us that day) and about his boxing future.
It was a very long but fun day. If Mosley can weave through Pacquiao’s swings like he did the ESPN campus, I think he’ll do just fine.
